Being a Sales & Trading Analyst at Citi
Initial Training
The full-time Analyst Program commences in September with an
intensive training course. Our program is interactive, ensuring
that you play a full part in the learning process and get the most
out of the experience through relevant, stimulating and effective
training.
Once you have completed the initial classroom based training,
you will join Sales & Trading where you take part in a series
of rotations across both Fixed Income and Equities before being
finally placed at a desk. This decision is reached through your
preferences and the requirements of our business. Our goal is to
ensure that every Analyst is placed in a position that best matches
your skill-sets and personal interests with our business needs.
What You’ll Learn as an Analyst at
Citi
Technical skills
You will then be engaged in an intensive classroom-based
training delivered by external corporate training consultants. Part
of your assessment will include passing exams. You will also
receive talks from Citi’s own professionals to introduce you to the
range of options open to you before starting at your desk.
FSA Module
This module will prepare you for the SII exams required for FSA
approval. It consists of tutorials, mock exams and self-study in
order to prepare you for the SII exams required for FSA
approval.
Post-Program
You will have ongoing access to the analyst portal. This
includes, recordings, pre-course e-learning and additional selected
chapters. You will also be able to participate in all appropriate
learning and development opportunities via our internal Business
University, which spans across markets, products, business skills
and networking.
Who We’re Looking For
Sales & Trading is a varied and exciting
place to work. The analysts that join the program will need to
adapt quickly to keep up and thrive within the fast-paced and often
intense environment. The variety of roles on the trading floor
means that there is no ‘one type fits all’. it is therefore
essential that we recruit analysts from a wide variety of
backgrounds. Strong academic performance is essential, along with a
high-level of motivation, ambition and genuine passion for the
markets. For some trading desks, a PhD is preferred.
Citi looks for the following key qualities in all analysts:
- a strong desire to develop a sound understanding of the
industry/environment
- high levels of self-motivation and initiative
- a commitment to integrity and ethical decision making
In addition, we would specifically look for the following:
- solid quantitative ability
- natural communicators with superior relationship building
skills
- ability to work under pressure
- creative & innovative problem solving
- strong team players
- a desire to work in a demanding and ever-changing
environment
- In a global environment, language skills are also an
advantage.
Summer Internship
The London office Summer Analyst Program runs for ten weeks from
the end of June to the end of August.
You will start the internship with an induction to Citi along
with approximately 150 other summer analysts joining the company.
The initial training includes:
- a review of important processes that you should know as a new
employee to Citi
- an introduction to Global Financial Markets and Citi. This
course helps to identify and explain the main business areas of an
investment bank, Citi’s products and services as well as engage you
in interactive trading simulations and portfolio management
- specific business product based training relevant for Sales
& Trading
- a teamwork event
After Training
After the initial training week, you will
complete two rotations across Sales & Trading desks. Your
rotations will be determined through combining your preferences
with those of the business. Throughout the summer we will continue
to provide you with training and networking opportunities to help
you gain an in-depth knowledge of the whole of Citi. These events
include a weekly product based talks from key seniors in Sales
& Trading, equity stock pick and weekly trading game
competitions and various social and networking opportunities. A
‘buddy’ will be also allocated to you to give you an informal
advice and support network over the summer.
