Being a Sales & Trading Analyst at Citi

Initial Training

The full-time Analyst Program commences in September with an intensive training course. Our program is interactive, ensuring that you play a full part in the learning process and get the most out of the experience through relevant, stimulating and effective training.

Once you have completed the initial classroom based training, you will join Sales & Trading where you take part in a series of rotations across both Fixed Income and Equities before being finally placed at a desk. This decision is reached through your preferences and the requirements of our business. Our goal is to ensure that every Analyst is placed in a position that best matches your skill-sets and personal interests with our business needs.

Who We’re Looking For

Sales & Trading is a varied and exciting place to work. The analysts that join the program will need to adapt quickly to keep up and thrive within the fast-paced and often intense environment. The variety of roles on the trading floor means that there is no ‘one type fits all’. it is therefore essential that we recruit analysts from a wide variety of backgrounds. Strong academic performance is essential, along with a high-level of motivation, ambition and genuine passion for the markets.  For some trading desks, a PhD is preferred.

Citi looks for the following key qualities in all analysts:

  • a strong desire to develop a sound understanding of the industry/environment
  • high levels of self-motivation and initiative
  • a commitment to integrity and ethical decision making

In addition, we would specifically look for the following:

  • solid quantitative ability
  • natural communicators with superior relationship building skills
  • ability to work under pressure
  • creative & innovative problem solving
  • strong team players
  • a desire to work in a demanding and ever-changing environment
  • In a global environment, language skills are also an advantage.

Summer Internship

The London office Summer Analyst Program runs for ten weeks from the end of June to the end of August.

You will start the internship with an induction to Citi along with approximately 150 other summer analysts joining the company. The initial training includes:

  • a review of important processes that you should know as a new employee to Citi
  • an introduction to Global Financial Markets and Citi. This course helps to identify and explain the main business areas of an investment bank, Citi’s products and services as well as engage you in interactive trading simulations and portfolio management
  • specific business product based training relevant for Sales & Trading
  • a teamwork event

After Training

After the initial training week, you will complete two rotations across Sales & Trading desks. Your rotations will be determined through combining your preferences with those of the business.
