Being a Capital Markets Origination Associate at Citi
Associates are the linchpins of a project team responsible from the smallest detail to integrating high-level strategy.  As Industries all over the globe are continuing to grow we need to recruit people who have what it takes to keep Citi successful.
Initial Training
All Associates participate in an intensive 8-11 week introduction to Citi's global businesses during July in New York City. The comprehensive training program is taught by skilled external consultants along with selected professionals with industry and product expertise. During the first weeks of the program, Associates study concepts in corporate finance, accounting, and financial modeling along with Associates from our Investment Banking Division.
Subsequently, Capital Markets Origination Associates begin a two-week intensive training course that focuses on financial products, securities analytics, bond math, credit, and the businesses that are housed within Capital Markets.
During training, candidates will be given the chance to network and learn about the different groups. Based on skill-sets and candidate and business preferences, Associates are placed in one business group after training.
What You Can Expect To Learn as an Associate
A CMO Associate serves as the day-to-day manager for the various projects they are working on. Each project has multiple work streams, deadlines and deliverables that must be managed and the Associate often serves as the key person marshalling a transaction. An Associate may work with the client, lawyers, syndicate desks and others to refine that financing strategy from both an efficiency and feasibility standpoint.
Some of the main tasks of a CMO Associate may include:

• Manage client relationships
• Financial modeling and analysis
• Work and interact with other professionals at Citi
• Market analysis
• Pricing analysis
• Investor communications

We expect all candidates to be highly motivated and to have an impressive track record of academic success, whatever discipline that may be in. We also look for well-rounded graduates, so we’ll expect your resume to demonstrate significant commercial work experience.

Summer Associate Program
Capital Markets Origination Associates go through three days of Training and Orientation at the start of the Summer Program. Through formal training, speakers and presentations, they are given an introduction to the Capital Markets Origination businesses as well as the tools they will need to be successful in their summer roles. After Training, Summer Associates report to their groups, where they will take on meaningful responsibility and gain live, hands-on deal experience.
And, as always, our full-time Associates are available to offer you advice on everything from juggling multiple projects to interacting with clients.
After Training
After your three days of training, you will jump right into the role of the full-time Associate. You are placed in one group within Fixed Income Capital Markets or Equity Capital Markets.
You will also be part of a formal mentor program, a thorough review process, and meet as many Citi people as possible to learn about and fully understand our company. All of which is designed to give you a greater chance of recieving a full-time offer once your MBA is completed.
